COVID-19 Procedures

During our 2021 camp season, our camp will be following the CDC, Virginia Department of Health, and Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council regulations and guidelines to keep our campers and staff safe. As these regulations and guidelines change periodically, please stay flexible as we will need to adapt accordingly. Below is a link to the GSVSC guidelines, as well as a brief overview of some risk management procedures we will have in place this year.

Group Size

Per Virginia’s March 23, 2021 mandate, social gatherings have been reduced to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. Additionally, it is still recommended that camp groups stick to 22 people or less and that there is six feet of physical distance between people while indoors. At Sugar Hollow Day Camp, all camp units will be restricted to an approximate group size of 10 people until further notice. During registration, we will have a waitlist for additional spots in case regulations change.

Social Distancing

Within units, we will strive to maintain six feet of distance between campers. For certain activities, this distance will be increased to a minimum of ten feet.

Masks

Everyone ages five and over will be required to wear face coverings. Campers and staff can bring their own masks, and we will have disposable masks on hand for those who need them.

Hand Washing

Campers and staff will regularly wash their hands and sanitize their work areas and play equipment.

Self-Assessment & Girl Scouts Culture of Care Pledge

Campers and staff will take a self-assessment to check symptoms prior to camp each day. All individuals must complete a temperature check and should agree to the Girl Scout Culture of Care Pledge prior to participation. Campers and staff will also be required to submit a COVID-19 Waiver as part of registration.

Girl Scout Culture of Care Pledge

In keeping with our Girl Scout Promise & Law, I (council staff, volunteer, parent, and girl), hereby pledge to approach the challenges of the new membership year with a renewed focus on mutual accountability and collective responsibility. I commit to learn and grow as an individual, mindfully and intentionally, for and with one another as leaders in the broader community. I accept the necessity of personal sacrifice for the achievement of our communal goals. As a member of the Girl Scout community, I commit to step up and forego some conveniences in the short term for the greater opportunity to return and be together, as safely as possible.

I acknowledge that our culture of care is merely a means to express the ideals we have long valued: beloved GS traditions, experiencing new things, gathering together, creating connections, making new friends; and exercising integrity to be leaders and a source of safety in our community.  I hereby pledge to be a role model for how we navigate this moment in history.

Transportation

We will not be able to provide our typical bus transportation this year. All campers and staff will have to drive to camp each day. As of 7/16/21, GSVSC is no longer allowing carpooling to their 2021 summer camps.

Thursday Overnight

We will not be able to provide our typical camper sleepover on Thursday night this year. We do have alternative plans to maintain camp traditions, such as our Thursday campfire, in other ways. Details will be available to campers as we get closer to camp.
